Hello.

I’m Alex von Vaupel, queer tanka poet, writer, activist, polyglot.
I live in Utrecht, Netherlands, where I work as a care assistant in nursing homes. When not at work I’m usually out and about cycling, sitting in a café drinking entirely too much coffee and writing poetry, or tending the vegetable garden on my balcony. My friends and (social) life appear to have all moved to Amsterdam or the UK, so it is plausible that I will eventually relocate.

NOTE: this site is very much under construction and going through a big makeover. I’ve decided to leave old posts online for now while I work on new content.

On this website you will find some of my poetry, and other information about my work and projects.
Follow the links in the sidebar to find my social profiles, other pages on this site, and work I have published elsewhere online. A ‘news’ section with blog updates will be added in the near future.

My tanka have been published in Atlas Poetica, Concise Delight, Prune Juice, and Take Five : Best Contemporary Tanka Vol. 2, 2009.
Two of my tanka won Tanka Splendor Awards in 2009.
Since January 2010 I am Technical Director of Atlas Poetica : A Journal of Poetry of Place in Contemporary Tanka, responsible for the journal’s website, cover design, and other technical matters.
